Postcode Lottery Ambassador Nadia Murad honoured at Albie Awards by Clooney Foundation for Justice

Nadia Murad, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and International Ambassador of the Postcode Lottery Group, has been honoured with the prestigious Justice for Defenders of the Rule of Law award by the Clooney Foundation for Justice (CFJ).

The honour was presented during the annual Albie Awards, held at the New York Public Library on September 26, 2024. George and Amal Clooney, co-founders of CFJ, commended five awardees for their courageous efforts. Fellow International Ambassador of the Postcode Lottery Group, George Clooney says, "We are proud to honour those who have confronted great danger in their pursuit of justice."

Truth, hope and compassion
In her acceptance speech, Murad, a tireless advocate for survivors of sexual violence and genocide, spoke passionately about her work through Nadia’s Initiative, an organisation she founded to support victims of mass atrocities. She highlighted the lasting trauma inflicted by sexual violence, calling it "a powerful weapon because it lasts forever," but also noted that it can be transformed into "truth, hope, and compassion" in the fight for justice.

Nadia’s Initiative receives long-term funding of the Postcode Lottery Group. The Albie Awards are named after Judge Albie Sachs, a South African anti-apartheid activist. Murad's recognition at this prestigious event underscores her unwavering dedication to justice, a mission that resonates with her role as both a global advocate for survivors of sexual violence and as an Ambassador for the Postcode Lottery.
