Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad named new International Ambassador

Novamedia is very pleased to welcome Nobel Peace Prize winner 2018 Nadia Murad as new International Postcode Lotteries’ Ambassador.

Nadia is an advocate for survivors of genocide and sexual violence. In 2020 her foundation Nadia's Initiative received support through the Svenska Postkodstiftelsen, the Swedish Postcode Foundation.

Nadia's Initiative is an international aid organisation that supports the Yazidis in rebuilding their community. The organisation specifically stands up for the rights of women who are victims of sexual violence.

Recently, the Dutch players made it possible to award € 1 million for restoring schools, health centers and farms; everything necessary to enable the Yazidi community to build up their lives again.

Currently, 300,000 Yazidis are still internally displaced and living in camps that are about to be shut down by the Iraqi government. Therefore, the sense of urgency to provide basic living conditions is growing every day, not to mention the extra challenges the Yazidi people are facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nadia Murad: "I commend the humanitarian work the Postcode Lotteries supports globally. We are proud to join the lotteries family in the work of making meaningful change around the world."

Since 2016 Nadia Murad is also Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking of the United Nations, to stick up for the rights of victims of human trafficking, genocide and (sexual) abuse.
