This month, we hear from team members working in the office and facilities team. We’re pleased to introduce you to Andrea from Germany, Laurissa from Britain: Yvonne from the Netherlands, and Jenny from Sweden.

Andrea, office manager, Germany: “I'm happy doing my part to make the world a better place"

Andrea Scheel started working for the Deutsche Postcode Lotterie in Düsseldorf on 1 May 2020 as an office manager, shortly after the outbreak of the covid pandemic.

What does a day at the office look like?
"No one day is the same, there are always unexpected tasks waiting for me that can’t be planned in advance. My most important job is to make sure everything runs smoothly in the office and that my colleagues can devote themselves to their work without having to worry about everyday things such as: ‘do we have enough coffee, milk, and fruit' or ‘does the lighting, heating or air conditioning work?’"

"In addition to this, I’m responsible for welcoming guests at reception, processing mail, and organising facility resources. Placing orders and booking travel for my colleagues is one of my favourite tasks. Who doesn't like to go shopping and booking hotels and flights?"

What does working at The Postcode Lottery Group mean to you?
"I'm part of the Postcode Lotteries family and I'm happy doing my part to make the world a better place. I feel I have arrived at the right place. It's great to work for a company where courage, sustainability, sharing and fun are guiding principles of the philosophy, which are not only written down but also lived."

"I love the challenge of not knowing in the morning which tasks and solutions the day will demand. And that at the end of the day I am always surprised that I have done everything, or almost everything..."

Can you recall one specific situation that stands out while working at the Lotteries?
"It was really amazing when our ambassador Kai Pflaume, a well-known TV entertainer in Germany, stood in front of me at the reception in real life. He is really nice and friendly. I am now waiting for the day when George Clooney will appear in our office in Düsseldorf. This is maybe just a dream. But at the Postcode Lotteries anything is possible."

Laurissa, office and catering assistant, Britain: “I love seeing and speaking to colleagues, especially after lockdown”

Laurissa Deans began working for People's Postcode Lottery in Edinburgh in August 2015 as a customer experience agent (telephony) and recently started as office and catering assistant.

What does a day at the office look like?
"A day in the office for me would be best described as…busy.  My job is to provide breakfast and lunch for all the team, topping up refreshments throughout the building and for meetings, all while making sure everything we purchase/use is as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible."

What does working at the Postcode Lotteries mean to you?
"Working for People’s Postcode Lottery means a lot to me. I love our office and seeing and speaking to team members every day, especially after lockdown in the pandemic. I love that we are the third largest charity donor in the world and support amazing charities worldwide.  Before working at People's Postcode Lottery, I worked as a zookeeper at Edinburgh Zoo which is a charity that we fund. It means a lot to me so even though I am not physically working with animals now, I know the work I do contributes to the funding received by zoo and many others wonderful charities."

Can you recall a specific situation that stands out from working at the Lotteries?
"I think the one situation that has always stood out for me was working at a Millions events handing out the winners cheques and meeting a gentleman who was having a difficult time.  He won the largest prize and you could see the difference we had made to him and his family through his huge smile and tears that day. I feel that all team members should attend these events as it shows the impact we make on people’s lives for the better."

Jenny, first impression receptionist, Sweden: “Amal and George Clooney stood out in so many ways”

Jenny Furukrona has been a first impression receptionist at Svenska Postkodlotteriet in Stockholm, since September 2011.

What does a day at the office look like?
"A day at the office is pretty much never the same. Our main tasks are to make sure that both our colleagues and guests feel welcome and comfortable so they can focus on what they do best."

What does working at the Postcode Lotteries mean to you?
"It means a lot to be able to feel that what I do is contributing to make a change in the world. I love the diversity that each day offers and the team engagement that brings us together."

Can you recall a specific situation that stands out from working at the Lotteries?
"There are so many to choose from: meeting incredibly brave and inspiring people, having the opportunity to take part in enriching lectures because of how generous this company is. But I guess I have to say that the visit of Amal and George Clooney stands out in so many ways."

Yvonne, hospitality employee, Netherlands: “Every day is different”

Yvonne Ruijl has been working as a hospitality employee for Nationale Postcode Loterij in Amsterdam since February 2022. She began working for the lotteries in September 2018, as a member of the HR team.

What does a day at the office look like?
"Our mission in hospitality is professionalism with a smile. Every day is different, usually it's very busy and dynamic. Our main task is to welcome all the visitors and ensure that they are registered and picked up by the person with whom they have an appointment. We also manage the parking garage, meeting room requests and guided tours around our amazing building."

What does working at the Postcode Lotteries mean to you?
"I am very happy to have the opportunity to work for an organisation that contributes to a fairer and greener world. I am a people person and it always gives me enormous energy to meet and assist people."

Can you recall a specific situation that stands out from working at the Lotteries?
"The Lotteries is a great place to work, meet and have fun. We have a strong social mission and help raise lots of funds, an amazing building, great colleagues and very exciting visitors from all over the world. It couldn’t be better."
