Charity Lotteries among the safest forms of gambling
- Lotterynews
Charity Lotteries are a safe and responsible way to fund good causes, a recent report shows.
A new report was recently released from the Association of Charity Lotteries in Europe (ACLEU), produced by leading consultancy Regulus Partners, titled ‘Beyond the Jackpot: Analysing the Safety of Charity Lotteries’. The report highlights that charity lotteries remain among the safest forms of gambling, supported by consistent evidence from across Europe.
Key findings from the report
The study draws on data from regulators, health experts, and academic research, revealing that charity lotteries:
● Are a low-risk form of gambling: Even as markets evolve, charity lotteries continue to demonstrate a minimal association with harmful gambling behaviours.
● Support social responsibility: Expanding the charity lottery sector does not promote problematic gambling. Instead, it provides a safe environment for players.
Call to action
Malcolm Fleming, President of ACLEU, emphasised: "Charity lottery fundraising is a low-risk activity and deserves regulatory measures that reflect this distinction. Our message to lawmakers across Europe is clear: ensure that charity lotteries can continue to raise funds for good causes and are not burdened by regulations designed for higher-risk gambling sectors."
These findings reinforce the critical role charity lotteries play in communities, not only by funding vital causes but also by maintaining a strong commitment to social responsibility.
A sector committed to responsible practices
Paul Leyland, report co-author and Partner at Regulus Partners, added: "This report reaffirms the mission of charity lotteries to contribute positively to society, not only by funding important causes but by providing a safe and socially responsible gambling environment."
In Sweden, Jan Erlandsson, Senior Advisor at ACLEU member Miljonlotteriet, shared how this report validates their commitment: "As a charity lottery, founded by the Swedish temperance movement, we are committed to ensuring that our products remain within the low-risk category. This validation supports our continued efforts to operate responsibly while contributing to community initiatives and supporting vital social causes."
By maintaining appropriate policies for charity lotteries, governments can continue to safeguard a socially responsible sector that funds life-changing initiatives around the globe.
