Postcode Lottery Group has announced the appointment of Burkhard Blienert as Public Affairs Director for Germany, further strengthening its commitment to one of Europe’s most important markets.

Burkhard brings extensive experience in politics, public policy and stakeholder engagement. He most recently served in the German government as Commissioner for Addiction and Drug Issues and was a member of the Bundestag from 2013 to 2017.

In his new role, Burkhard will lead engagement with policymakers and external stakeholders, helping to advance Postcode Lottery Group’s long-term ambitions to provide a growing, reliable and sustainable source of funding for charities large and small in Germany. His deep understanding of Germany’s political landscape, combined with a strong network at both federal and state levels, will support the organisation’s continued growth and impact in the country.

Postcode Lottery Group is owned by a not-for-profit foundation and operates successful charity lotteries in the Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Norway, as well as Germany. Through its Lotteries, the organisation raises funds for a wide range of charities and social organisations working across areas including health, nature, equality, social inclusion and international development.

Last year, together with the support of Postcode Lotterie Deutschland players, a total of €90 million was raised for charities across Germany.

Thanks to the support of its players, Postcode Lottery Group has now raised more than €15 billion for charities worldwide, providing long-term, flexible funding that enables organisations to plan ahead and maximise their impact.
