Svenska Postkodlotteriet (Swedish Postcode Lottery) is the largest charity lottery in Sweden. Almost one million players, that is one in every five households, are taking part with almost 1.8 million tickets bought by monthly subscription. A lottery ticket costs 170 Swedish kronor per month, which is approximately 17 euros.
Since the lottery started in 2005, nearly 1,400 players have become Postcode millionaires. Thanks to all its loyal players, the Svenska Postkodlotteriet is Sweden’s largest private contributor to the non-profit sector, having donated more than SEK 13.5 billion for charities so far.
Svenska Postkodlotteriet operates on the Swedish regulated gambling market. The business is run by Svenska PostkodLotteriet AB on the basis of a contract concluded with the Swedish Postcode Association, which holds the lottery licence. All beneficiaries of the lottery are members of the Association.
Postcode Lottery format
The postcode is the basis of the lottery number. A lottery ticket costs SEK 170 per month.
People win every day with the Svenska Postkodlotteriet. In 2021, 85% of all players celebrated a win, and more than SEK 1.5 billion in prize money was shared in winning postcodes across Sweden. Prizes usually range from SEK 170 to SEK 100,000, with the highest amounts representing a share of the Grannyra, which is presented three times a year with a prize pot of up to SEK 265 million.
The more tickets sold the more funds are available for good causes. The lottery’s much-needed funding supports 59 charities and hundreds of projects and initiatives, contributing to a better, fairer world. Every year the charities receive approximately SEK 1 billion at the Annual Charity Event in March.
