A total of 61 non-profit organisations receive a share of more than one billion Swedish kronor: 1,021,711,232 (€89.3 million). The news was presented at the Swedish Postcode Lottery’s Charity Gala, which took place at the Stockholm City Hall on 14 March.

Players make a difference
One million people in Sweden, more than 20 percent of the households, participate in Svenska Postkodlotteriet. Since 2005, players have raised SEK 15.5 billion for charities and good causes. Every individual who plays the lottery contributes; without players, there would be no funding for charities. Several winners were present during the evening and shared stories about the positive impact the winnings had on their lives and the satisfaction of contributing to good causes through their lottery tickets.

The Power of Postcodes
CEO Sigrid van Aken, presented the impact of the Postcode Lottery Group: “Since launching 35 years ago, our family of lotteries in the Netherlands, Sweden, Britain, Norway, and Germany, has been an unstoppable force for good. Last year alone we donated €904 million to a wide range of organisations all working for a healthier, fairer, and greener world."

She added: “We create tickets for good and we do our best to help millions of people. This is what we call: ‘the Power of Postcodes’. That is what we do. That is who we are!”

A strong civil society
Anders Årbrandt and Ebba Kilman, managing directors of Svenska Postkodlotteriet, stressed the importance of a strong civil society and independent organisations.

Ebba Kilman shared: “Our aim is to generate as many funds as possible so that you [our charity partners] can carry out your important work for a better world."

She added: "We can do our job, thanks to all our fantastic players. But you are the ones who know best where the funding is most needed. Long-term commitment, based on trust, is the basis of our relationship. And that is why our funding, of which the majority, is unrestricted.”

Dream Fund Projects
Five Dream Fund projects were awarded, totaling SEK 100 million. One of these projects, the Dreamproject L.U.S.T., which is a collaboration between the Swedish Olympic Committee, Fryshuset, the Swedish Sailing Federation, and the Swedish Ski Association, was announced during the event and received SEK 38.5 million.
